What are the precautions for installing rubber seals?
Precautions for installation of rubber seals
Cleaning before installation
The installation chamber, shaft surface, and groove need to be thoroughly cleaned, free of iron filings, burrs, dust, and oil stains, to avoid scratching the seals and causing leakage.
Check dimensions and grooves
Confirm that the sealing component model, wire diameter, inner diameter match the groove size, and the groove must not have sharp corners, gaps, or rust, otherwise it will directly cut the sealing ring.
Do not forcefully smash
Do not forcefully pry or smash with tools such as hammers or screwdrivers. Instead, push in evenly and slowly to prevent twisting, deformation, or flanging.
Use lubrication assistance
It is recommended to apply lubricating grease, silicone oil or system medium for lubrication to reduce frictional resistance and avoid pulling or twisting during installation.
Attention: Lubricating products should not react with sealing materials.
Prevent distortion and flipping
O-rings and oil seals are particularly prone to twisting and flanging. During installation, observe while installing to ensure that the seals are flat and not skewed when inserted into the groove.
Protect through threads, steps, and keyways
When there are threads, keyways, or steps on the shaft end, it is necessary to wrap them with an introduction sleeve, tape, or a one-to-one protective sleeve to avoid sharp edges cutting through the seal.
Control installation direction
Oil seals, U-shaped rings, Y-shaped rings, etc. have directionality, and the sealing lip needs to face the pressure side/medium side. Reverse installation will directly fail.
Avoid excessive stretching and compression
Do not artificially stretch the sealing components excessively. After installation, the compression should be within the design range. Tightness can cause aging, while looseness can lead to leakage.
Uniform force installation
Flanges and end caps should be evenly tightened diagonally with bolts to prevent excessive local stress from damaging the seals.
Post installation inspection and trial operation
After installation, check if it is in place and if there is any damage. First, conduct a low-pressure test run to observe for leaks, abnormal noises, and overheating.
Storage and Pre use Inspection
Seals should be kept away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and oil stains; Before installation, check for aging, cracking, deformation, and missing materials. Non compliant products are strictly prohibited from use.
