Teflon sealing ring

PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) sealing ring is a high-performance, non rubber sealing component with core advantages of chemical resistance, high temperature resistance (based on actual reports), and low friction. It is often used as an upgraded alternative to ordinary rubber (EPDM, FKM).

1、 Core characteristics (PTFE vs rubber)

Wide temperature resistance: -200 ℃~260 ℃ Long term stability, far exceeding FKM (fluororubber)

Strong chemical resistance: resistant to almost all strong acids, alkalis, solvents, and brake fluids, with almost no swelling or corrosion

Ultra low friction: friction coefficient only 0.04~0.1, self-lubricating, no jamming or dragging

Disadvantages: Poor elasticity and hardness, weak rebound force of pure PTFE, and high pressure prone to "cold flow" deformation

2、 Common types of calipers/braking systems

1. Pure iron fluorine dragon rectangular ring/piston ring

Structure: Pure white hard ring, non rubber elastomer

Advantages: Further understanding of sticking, non dragging braking, extremely long lifespan, and resistance to all brake fluids

Disadvantage: No automatic return capability, requires cooperation with caliper structure or spring

Applicable: Stable performance modification, racing, long-term parking without dragging brake scenarios

2. Rubber coated PTFE (O-ring/rectangular ring)

Structure: Inner core (NBR/FKM)+outer PTFE coating

Advantages: Combining rubber elastic return with PTFE temperature and oil resistance, low friction

Applicable: Factory upgraded, stable performance street car, balancing return and practicality

3. PTFE guide pin liner/retaining ring

Function: Replace rubber sleeves to further understand jamming, no abnormal noise, and high temperature resistance (based on actual reports)

Advantage: The caliper slides smoothly and meticulously, solving the problem of rust on the guide pin after long-term use
